Perler Beads: Wario's Woods

One of my favorite SNES games is Wario's Woods, which makes sense given that it's the sort of game you could theoretically play for 10 minutes and be done (though that always turned into hours for me). I remember one Christmas break watching my sister-in-law play it religiously as a coping strategy for morning sickness, so it has that benefit too on top of all the usual hand-eye coordination business. It has the misfortune of having a really dumb AI for story mode, but makes up for it with an excellent endless mode, and two player is pretty fun if I could ever convince Nathan to let me crush him... but alas, he normally opts for other pastimes instead, so I haven't played it much lately. Still, I couldn't resist recreating the game in perlers...

Wario's Woods: can you see the best moves to eliminate the maximum number of enemies?

Of course they had to go next to the Mario stuff. It's technically a spin-off game.
The best part about these guys is I can keep adding more if I feel like it - like a slow-motion Wario's Woods game!

Perler Beads: Final Fantasy IV

Oh hey. Remember how we have a whole wall plus some dedicated to Final Fantasy I and VI? Well, we finally got around to doing Final Fantasy IV to round it all out. Of course, there wasn't much room on the wall with VI and I, so we had to spread out a little bit...

The Fat Chocobo is my favorite. Here they all are, before being hung up.
Then we realized we needed an enemy for them to fight...

In progress FFIV enemy

And here they are in battle!

The rest of these guys are lazing around with the Fat Chocobo instead of fighting.

Here's the whole batch over our bedroom door.
The sprites turned out surprisingly good considering how much fudging we had to do with the colors.

Perler Beads: Mega Man (the Ultimate Collection)

Remember all the Mega Man sprites I posted about previously? Well, I am proud to announce that Nathan has completed every robot master from Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10, plus a few bonus characters from Mega Man X. And rather than post each game individually as I was trying to do before, I gave up and am posting it all at once! Yay for you, yay for me. Also, I thought it would be fun to show pictures as it progressed too, so this will be a rather picture-heavy post...

Just Mega Man 1. It's so... empty!

Now add in 2 and 3...

then 4...

Then 5 and maybe part of 6 too...

and then it got a little crazy.

Almost done! We were waiting on another color to be shipped for the last few, but we found out it was discontinued after this picture was taken, so we went ahead and finished up with what we had available.

Yes indeed, that's a lot of robot masters. And Frog from Chrono Trigger is photo bombing the picture.

And that marks the completion of Mega Man in perlers! Good thing, too, because we ran out of wall space for them. :P

Perler Beads: Earthbound

Oh Earthbound. You make me sad every time I think of you... every time I think of how we owned the cartridge growing up, and it got stolen, ne'er to be replaced, and now cartridges go for $150 minimum on ebay (over $500 if you want the box/manual). The last hole in our collection. Even though we don't own it, it's still an awesome game, and it deserved some representation on our walls.

Earthbound! Poo, Jeff, Ness, Paula, Pokey, Mr. Saturn, King
They haven't actually been hung up yet; that's a shot of them on the carpet. I'm quite pleased with how well they turned out though. Nathan wants to make a slew of NPC's to go with these guys, but for now I'm happy with the set as is.

And as an added bonus, I'll throw in a picture of the chocobo I made from Final Fantasy VI. It's a little more orange than the original sprite, though, so I might try again another time with a slightly different color scheme.

Completed chocobo! I guess he doesn't look as orange as I feared in the photo...
Edit:

Here are all the Earthbound sprites hung up over our piano.

Perler Beads: Bubble Bobble (Plus Misc. NES Games)

Way back in the day (aka pre-marriage), Nathan and I used to go on dates to the nickelcade, where I crushed him at Dr. Mario, and he crushed me at everything else. One of the games we played was, of course, Bubble Bobble, which was rather tricky due to the 2nd player joystick always going left. For some reason, that made me not want to play it... My second exposure to Bubble Bobble was (I'm ashamed to admit) the rather sub-par XBLA version, but we recently acquired the original NES cartridge as well. I find the art style rather charming, so of course we had to make some sprites... and what better place to put Bubble Bobble sprites than in the bathroom? (Get it? Where the bubbles are? Totally Nathan's idea.)

So cute! Bubble Bobble guys in the middle, enemies on either end.
The green guy looks even more awesome in person. Kiwi lime with hot coral accents looks really good.

We also finished a few other miscellaneous sprites from various other NES games... and by we, I mean Nathan, because I was busy doing Zelda stuff. So now we also have Bionic Commando and Blaster Master representing.

Bionic Commando. I especially like how he looks hanging from the light switch.

Blaster Master (haven't figured out where to put him yet... maybe driving along on top of a picture frame?)

Perler Beads: The Legend of Zelda (update)

Looking back at my Zelda showcase 2 months ago, I realized it was a little sparse. So this past weekend, I beefed it up while listening to General Conference. I hereby present the updated and much improved Zelda wall:

Game Boy Zelda games (Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages and Link's Awakening)

Game Boy Zelda and original flavor Zelda

Zelda II and Link to the Past

My personal favorite, Minish Cap (look at the awesome sprite of Link falling... AAAAAHHH)

And the whole panorama!

I also couldn't resist making a full set of cats from Minish Cap to take to work. I haven't put them up yet, but here's a quick photo of them.

Minish Cap cats!

There's always a chance I'll get the hankering to make even more Zelda sprites, so if you think of any that you really want to see, let me know in the comments! Also, stay tuned for many more perler sprites this week... this is only a small sampling of what we accomplished over the weekend. :)
